Minnie Cho Amundson, LPCC

Hello! My name is Minnie Cho Amundson. I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (#6906). I specialize in working with children and adolescents. Our youth today face many transitions during their development, which can be both exciting but also overwhelming. Today’s world is fast paced, technology driven, with a focus on instant gratification. This can create a disconnect not only between the child and others around them, but also within the child’s own self. Changes within the family, school-related issues, or traumatic events can also lead to troubled feelings. Children and adolescents may need help managing feelings of sadness, anxiety, anger, and stress. As a therapist, I help to work through these issues, focus on building strengths, and create positive thinking patterns and healthy behavioral habits. My goal is to help in the development of capable and emotionally productive children and adolescents.

Experienced Child & Adolescent Therapist

For the past 5 years I’ve worked as a school counselor at the elementary level (K-5), providing counseling services for ADHD, anxiety, depression, behavioral difficulties, peer relational issues, coping skills, self-esteem, divorce, and grief. I’ve also worked in a therapeutic school setting (K-12) as a Clinical DIS (Designated Instructional Services) and ERMHS (Educationally Related Mental Health Services) Counselor, providing weekly therapy as part of a child’s IEP services. I have experience working with at-risk teens with various backgrounds and Special Education students.

Every child is unique and with that in mind, I create a specific therapeutic approach and treatment planning that is tailored for each client. I enjoy incorporating the use of the latest technology, interactive games/activities, and kinesthetic movements/exercises. My therapeutic foundation comes from a humanistic and person-centered approach, but I use many evidence-based practices such as CBT, solution-focused, mindfulness-based therapy, play therapy, and family systems. I incorporate the use of humor, playfulness, and easy-going nature within my therapeutic setting. Flexibility is key with children and adolescents!

I believe every child deserves unconditional positive regard, acceptance, time, and nurturing. Most importantly, I believe that parents are the experts on their children and their knowledge and support is crucial to successful treatment. Children and adolescents are still in the developing stages of their lives. They are growing physically, socially, and emotionally. Patience, empathy and understanding, along with the right tools and approaches are the key factors in creating a successful therapeutic process. If you are a parent or caregiver in need of support for your child or adolescent, you don’t have to struggle alone! Help is available. If you believe we may be a good fit, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your time.
