Hello! I’m Katie and I’m an Associate Clinical Social Worker. Being a new parent myself, I know how challenging and isolating parenting can feel. There can be pressure to do things the “right” way, strain on your relationships, scary thoughts about your baby, unexplainable rage. No one tells you how hard it can be. You may wonder when, if ever, there will be a light at the end of the tunnel. You are not the only one struggling, even though it may seem that way. But you can (and will!) feel like yourself again. I would be honored to help you get there.
I know how daunting (and tiring) it can be to pick out a therapist. There are many out there! Let me tell you a bit about me and how I do things so you can determine if I’m the right person for you.
My therapeutic approach begins with careful assessment, learning about your goals, and partnering together to create a plan for treatment. While psychodynamic “talk” therapy works for some people, I tend to not use this approach. I prefer cognitive behavioral therapy, and when appropriate, encouraging my clients to face their fears with exposures, as these techniques have been shown to re-wire the brain incredibly effectively. I also like using mindfulness techniques, which help us to experience emotions rather than avoiding them or burying them. Most importantly, you will be doing the work yourself, I’ll just help you add new tools to your tool belt.
If you think I would be a good fit, just know there is truly nothing you could say that would shock or surprise me. I’ve worked with clients and their families in some of the most critical and darkest periods of their life. I am continually impressed with how incredible and resilient my clients are, and it is why I love this work.
I received my education and clinical training at UCLA (Master of Social Welfare) and UCI (Post-Baccalaureate in Psychology). I am an Associate Social Worker (ASW96563) under the supervision of Dr. Megan Phillips (PSY28184).
